PrEP is an HIV prevention drug that stops the virus from replicating inside the body. If you are exposed to HIV either during sex or other ways, and if you have been taking PrEP daily or as prescribed, studies show that the risk of transmitting HIV is reduced by 99%.
For people who have been prescribed non-occupational post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) – any geography, age group and gender
Condoms, when used correctly and consistently, are safe and highly effective in preventing unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.
It is always advisable to use a condom provided you are not trying to get pregnant. PrEP will protect you from HIV, but it doesn’t give you any protection against sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Using a condom is the best way to prevent other STIs including Gonorrhoea, Chlamydia and Hepatitis C. Also, PrEP does not prevent pregnancy.
Protection rates from HIV and other STIs can be significantly improved by combining condoms with other forms of prevention like PrEP. They help prevent HIV for higher risk sexual activities like anal or vaginal sex, and for lower risk activities, like oral sex and sharing sex toys.
